The Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame proudly awards a certificate of recognition each year to a female and a male athlete from each parish school as a High School Player of the Year.
Criteria for selections of Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete
ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS - Since this is the name of the award, it should be the primary consideration. Those who have been named All-State or All-District, and those selected by their coaches for special awards at banquets or in yearbooks, should be carefully considered. The number of sports participated in should also be a major factor, as well as whether the athlete was a starter or high achiever in more than one sport. The recommendations of the players' coaches, who know them best, should be a major factor. Nevertheless, if the athlete is deficient in the other criteria, he or she should not receive the honor.
SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENTS - The primary goal of any scholar-athlete should be to get a quality education. Therefore, the athletes' grades and recommendations of their teachers should enter strongly into the selections.
CHARACTER - This includes: integrity and team loyalty, and should be an important consideration for this honor~ .This aspect must be based on interviews with the players' teachers and coaches, as it is not something that can be graded on paper like the first two criteria.
SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT - The individual that can find the time to devote to this particular phase of his career, without causing his scholastic or athletic achievements to suffer, should have a plus in case the other criteria are close to being the same as others, and may help break what would otherwise be a tie in judging.
